Have you ever heard somebody say, “They fight dirty”? Or perhaps “They don’t fight fair.” Arguments are often thought of as fights and we want to win those arguments, so we will resort to whatever it takes to win bringing up the past, using their own weaknesses against them to hurt them!
Paul says that’s not the way to go about things. If you want to “win” then you must use God’s ways…
We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 2 Corinthians 10:4 (NLT)
So what are these weapons of God?
The answer to that question may be found in Ephesians chapter six where Paul explains that we are not just fighting against people…
10A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:10 - 12 (NLT)
He then goes on to outline those “weapons” that are from God in verses 14-18 (emphasis added)…
The belt of truth
The armor of God’s righteousness
Shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace
The shield of faith
the helmet of salvation
The sword of the Spirit, which is
The word of God
Prayer
So the next time you get in that “fighting mood”, whether it be a disagreement on scripture, theology, opinions or policy, make sure you get out the right weapons!
