Today we celebrate liberty and freedom. Those words mean different things to different people. Here is how those concepts are defined in God’s view…
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
Because the LORD has anointed me
To bring good news to the afflicted;
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to captives
And freedom to prisoners;
For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. 6He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.
But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. 5God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.
He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
I will walk in freedom,for I have devoted myself to your commandments.
If you love Me, keep My commandments.
